Osun State Government has assured the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN of its partnership.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who gave the assurance in Osogbo at the opening of the 2024 SMEDAN/MSME Opportunity Fair in the Southwest, said the government and SMEDAN are partners in the growth and development of the national economy.

Governor Adeleke explained that the government has a duty to strengthen the capacities of small businesses by implementing ease of doing business which involves harmonizing taxes, providing infrastructure, opening access to finance and ensuring security for business operations.

He noted that businesses must be strengthened regarding management capacity, branding, marketing and networking which SMEDAN had been acting on. 

The governor commended the management of SMEDAN for its passionate commitment to developing and strengthening small businesses.

He directed the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry to work on the signing of a new MOU between SMEDAN and the Osun State Government stressing that they must forge a very robust relationship to grow small businesses in the country.

Earlier, the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria, SMEDAN, Dr Charles Odii had commended Governor Adeleke for his policies towards enhancing the economy of Osun State.

The Federal Government Through The Small And Medium Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDAN Has Presented Empowerment Materials To Over Two Hundred Beneficiaries Of The National Business Skills Development Initiative And National Vocational And Entrepreneurship Scheme In Osun State.

The Materials Were Handed Over To The beneficiaries And Cooperative Groups In Osogbo, The Osun State Capital By The Director General Of SMEDAN, Mr Olawale Fasanya.

The Materials Included Laptops, Computer Repairs Kits And GSM Repairs Kit, Industrial Machine For Fashion, Leather Works Machine And Catering Equipments.

In A Key Note Address During The Presentation, The SMEDAN Director General, Mr Olawale Fasanya Explained That The Programme Was Built On Fundamental Objectives Aimed At Creating A Functional Macro Economy And Making Life Better For Nigerians.

“The Expected Outcomes Of The Programme Include Improved Business Management Practice, Increased Access To Finance, Equipment And Other Business Resources, Improved service Provision/Delivery By Skilled Artisans, Improved Wealth Creation, Employment Generation And Poverty Reduction.”

Mr Fasanya Added That In The National Business Skills Development Initiative And National Vocational And Entrepreneurship Scheme, Three Thousand, Three Hundred And Thirty Women And Three Thousand One Hundred And Forty-Five Youths Would Be Trained Throughout The Thirty-Six States Of The Country.

He Explained That In A Bid To Confront The Challenges Facing Medium, And Small, MSMEs In Nigeria, The Agency Was Implementing A Number Of Policies Which Include MSME Mass Registration, Export Facilitation Programme, Accreditation Of Business Service Providers, One Local Government One Product And Opportunity Fairs And Exhibition.

“Conditional Grant Scheme, CGS: The Programme Seeks To   Promote The Activities Of Micro Enterprises Across The Country In The Areas Of Capacity Building, Access To Finance, N50,000.00 Grants, Business Names Registration With Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC , Access To Markets And The Delivery Of Post-Intervention Support Services.”

Are You A Farmer Or Processor Who Is Willing To Create Employment Through Value Addition? The Agency Is Inviting You To Apply For The Next Stream Of the Matching Fund Programme. The Advert Will Come Out In The Next Few Weeks”

In A Good Will Message, The President Of The Osun State Chamber Of Commerce And Industry, Elder Bisi Makanjuola Commended The Federal Government For It’s Commitment To Improving the Entrepreneurial Capacity Of Young Nigerians And Women In Particular.

Elder Makanjuola Advised Nigerian Youths To Key Into The Many Opportunities Being Created By The Federal Government Through SMEDAN Rather Than Planning To Join Those Who Are Running Away From The Country.

Some Of The Beneficiaries, Including Mr Akindele Isola And Mrs Abimbola Adeniyi Thanked The Federal Government For The Opportunity And Appealed For Its Expansion So That It Can Cover More Youths And Women.

Declaring The Programme Open, The Osun State Commissioner For Commerce, Industry, Cooperative And Empowerment, Dr Bode Olaonipekun Announced That About Fifteen Thousand People Had Benefited From The State Government’s Entrepreneurial Programme Which Was Supported By SMEDAN.

Three hundred persons in Oyo South Senatorial District have benefitted from Federal government grant through Small and Medium Scale Enterprises of Nigeria, SMEDAN, facilitated by the lawmaker representing the district at the upper chamber, Senator Kola Balogun to start or boost their businesses.

The beneficiaries who were selected from the nine local governments which make up the district received between twenty and fifty thousand naira grants.

Presenting the payment vouchers to the beneficiaries, the facilitator, Senator Kola Balogun said the empowerment programme was geared towards fulfilling his electioneering promises.

Senator Balogun who noted that another empowerment initiative targeted at one thousand people had been slated for March this year and urged the beneficiaries to utilise the grant judiciously in order to qualify for the greater opportunities ahead.

He promised to continue to represent his constituents positively at the Senate.

Oyo State coordinator of SMEDAN, Mrs Mabel Ojogbede explained that the grants were given to the beneficiaries based on their businesses.

Two of the beneficiaries Mr Wole Opadeye and Ms Fatima Alamu appreciated both the federal government and Senator Balogun for the gesture.

They pledged to make judicious use of the money to add value to their businesses.
