Security operatives in Osun State have given different accounts to the incident of sporadic gunshots by security aides attached to the Minister of Interior, Mr Rauf Aregbesola.


The Police said the Minister was moving around MDS/Orisunbare road in company of armed NSCDC, Correctional Service, Immigration officers and some suspected political thugs.


A statement by the Spokesperson of the Osun Command of the Nigeria Police, Mrs Yemisi Opalola, accused the armed Security aides of the Minister of sporadically shooting into the air without provocation, causing residents to scamper for safety.


Mrs Opalola confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the shooting spree, but a total of thirteen empty shells of G-3 assault and AK_47 riffles were recovered from the scene after Mr Aregbesola’s departure.


She promised to hint the public or details after due investigation.


However, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Osun State Command gave another account alleging that some ” unknown hoodlums attacked the convoy of the Minister at about 6:40pm around old garage in Osogbo.


In statement by the Command’s public relations officer, Mrs Atanda Olabisi, the Minister’s security aides were able to repel the attack and brought normalcy to the area.
The statement gives assurance that the corps will continue to protect the people and make the state peaceful.

Pathologists invited to conduct an autopsy on the remains of Timothy Adegoke, a Master’s student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, whose dead body was exhumed some days after he was declared missing, arrived at Osun State University Teaching Hospital UNIOSUNTH, Osogbo around 2 pm, on Monday.

Family members of the deceased, counsels and journalists had arrived at the hospital by 11 am when the autopsy was slated, to monitor the event.

The corpse was taken out of the hospital’s mortuary department for X-ray and later returned for other examinations.

Lead counsel to the family of late Timothy Adegoke, Mr. Naheem Adekilekun, said the pathologist of the family of the deceased was there to represent them.

The Investigative Police Officer, IPO, and other pertinent parties were allowed into the mortuary while journalists and other members stood outside.

Meanwhile, speaking with newsmen on behalf of the family, Mr. Adekilekun challenged the police over the alleged audio of one of the suspects and the owner of Hilton Hotel and Resorts, Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin.

He expressed concern over the audio of the suspect who was said to be in police detention, pleading his innocence in the audio.

The counsel who said the action of Osun Police command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, who told members of the public that there was nothing to show any form of mutilation on the body of the deceased when it was exhumed from the shallow grave, was contrary to what witnesses who were at the site of the exhumation had to say.

He called on the police to give an explanation on the reported “preferential and VIP treatment” being accorded the owner of the hotel who they claimed to be in their detention.

As of the time of filing this report, the outcome of the autopsy is yet to be out.

There was confusion in Iwo Town ,Osun state in the early hours of today as some youths engaged in free for all, breaking bottles and using other dangerous weapons
Source who craved anonymity told Radio Nigeria that Problem started from a carnival organized by a set of youths whom another group believed usually disguised with the carnival to loot shops.

The other group allegedly attempted to prevent the carnival,a development which led to the unrest.

When contacted police public relations Officer in Osun State,Yemisi Opalola who confirmed the incident said the cause of the unrest was unknown.
She said the hoodlums fled when the police arrived at the scene, noting that police had identified the culprits and was on their trail.

 “The hoodlums were causing problem they broke bottles on the Road, Police got there, they ran away, police have identified them & are looking for the way to get them. The reason(s) for the incident yet to be known”She responded with a text message.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to Oja area as commercial activities were gradually picking up around ten o’clock in the morning.

Osun State Police Command has begun investigation into the death of a 24 year old graduate, Taiwo Kajogbola allegedly knocked down by a police patrol vehicle at Osunjela, some metres away from Osogbo the state capital.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola told Radio Nigeria, Gold FM that the state commissioner, Mr. Wale Olokode had directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated for justice to prevail

This follows the call by sympathizers and passersby to establish the allegation of a hit and run incident leveled against some police officers as confirmed by the elder brother of the deceased Mr Azeez Korede

He explained that his brother, Taiwo was returning to Osogbo en route Osunjela on a motorcycle around 7:00 PM after dropping food stuff for his parents to break the current Ramadan fast

The sympathizers and passersby thereafter claimed that the police immediately distorted the sport and left Taiwo in his pool of blood having realized the gravity of the incident

The passersby who shared the grief of Kajogbola Family said efforts to rescue the victim was unsuccessful as he gave up the ghost before getting to the nearest hospital
