The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, has declared Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanbi of the All Progressives Congress, APC winner of the councillorship bye-election in Ward 1, Yewa South Local Government Area. 

The bye-election, contested by 10 political parties in 36 polling units, followed the death of the sitting councillor, Olayinka Adekanbi.

Announcing the results, the Electoral Officer for the Council area, Mr Ademola Akinyele, confirmed that Mrs. Adekanbi polled 1,873 votes to defeat her closest rival from the People’s Democratic Party ,PDP, who secured 351 votes. 

Speaking on behalf of the OGSIEC Chairman, Mr. Babatunde Osibodu, the Commissioner for Legal Affairs, Mrs. Remilekun Olaopa, who commended the electorate for their peaceful conduct and discipline at the polling units, described the bye-election as a model of transparency and credibility.

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District, commended the peaceful exercise and praised Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration for ensuring transparency. 

State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, described the process as flawless and expressed confidence in Mrs. Adekanbi’s ability to sustain her husband’s legacy.

In her remarks, the councillor-elect thanked voters, the APC leadership and the Governor, pledging dedicated service.
