Oyo Govt. Identifies the Poor, Vulnerable in Six Local Councils

The poor and the vulnerable in 60 communities across six local government areas in Oyo State have been identified. 

 In a statement by the Oyo State Coordinator of Youth Employment and Social Support Operation, YESSO, Mrs Laide Lasisi, the task is being carried out under a project tagged Community Based Targeting, CBT, exercise.

According to Mrs Lasisi, the programme is targeted to cover more than 240 communities in order to identify the poor and the vulnerable in their localities. 

She explained that the details collected from each household during the exercise would be sent to the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) for cleaning and subsequent addition to the State Social Register of the poor and vulnerable in Oyo state.

Mr Lasisi further explained that the register which serves as the hub of beneficiaries of Social Safety Net Programmes in the country would eventually be established in all verifiable communities in the state.

Oyo Commences Fifth Round of Community-Based Identification of Vulnerable

The fifth round of community-based targeting exercise in eighteen local government areas has commenced following the approval by the Oyo State Government.

The community driven-exercise is aimed at populating the register of the poor of the poor and vulnerable in the state.

Addressing the supervisors for the exercise, the Coordinator, Youth Employment and Social Support Operation, Oyo State, Mrs Laide Lasis charged them to make use of personal protective equipment while carrying out the assignment in the communities.

She charged the community based targeting teams to make COVID-19 enlightenment their entry interaction during the focus group discussion.

According to Mrs Lasis, the main task of the supervisors is to ensure that the errors made by community based teams are corrected during the exercise.

She disclosed that efforts are on to extend the exercise to the remaining fifteen local governments in order to identify the less privileged among them so as to populate the Oyo State social register for the poor and the vulnerable.

Some of the local governments where the exercise is currently taking place are; Akinyele, Oriire, Ibadan North-West, Ibadan North-East, Oluyole and Iwajowa Local Government.

Others are Atiba Egbeda, Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa North, Ido, Irepo, Kajola, Ogo-Oluwa, Olorunsogo, Saki East and Surulere.
