Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has raised alarm over the increasing number of illegal immigrants flooding into the country through the land borders.

He made this known while receiving the Assistant Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Zone F, who is in charge of Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States, Dora Amahian in his office in Akure.

Governor Akeredolu observed that Nigeria would continue to be at loss going by the series of criminalities being perpetrated by the illegal immigrants in the country.

Governor Akeredolu who recommended urgent collaboration among the security agencies pledged the Ondo State’s continual support to tackle the menace of illegal foreigners turning themselves to permanent residents in the country.

Describing security as the responsibility of all, Assistant Comptroller General Dora Amahian said the service had a border corps on ground to arrest the illegal immigrants aside the ongoing e-registration of the foreigners.

It was a gathering of major stakeholders on security matters at a-day capacity building for Oyo state War Against Indiscipline, WAI brigade on community policing, organized by the state National Orientation Agency, NOA. 

Guest speaker on the occasion, Assistant Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, zone F, ACG Shem Obafaiye challenged the WAI brigade officers on security professionalism including information gathering, intelligence management, surveillance and conduct. 

ACG Obafaiye who spoke on the topic “The role of volunteerism in security for community policing” solicited synergy among security agencies in the country as well as non state actor, noting that security is everybody’s business. 

In a goodwill message, Senior Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on security matters, a retired commissioner of police, Mr Fatai Owoseni cautioned members of the WAI brigade to be self disciplined and maintain civility with members of the public. 

Earlier in a welcome address, Oyo State Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mrs Dolapo Dosunmu said the purpose of the refresher training was to allow the beneficiaries to further complement the effort of the security agencies on safe, orderly and disciplined society.
