It was a celebration galore at the Iwuye ceremony of the Fourteenth Iyalode of Ibadanland, High Chief Theresa Oyekanmi which coincided with her eighty-sixth birthday.

University of Ibadan International Conference Centre, the venue of the programme was filled to capacity with family, relatives and friends of the celebrant.

Apart from Olubadan band and some traditional drummers that entertained the people, Ataoja-Osogbo band was also on ground to add colour to the event as the husband of the celebrant, Prince Diti Oyekanmi is from the royal Matanmi family of Osogbo.

Different speakers at the event described the new Iyalode of Ibadanland as a kind-hearted mother, who had touched many lives outside her immediate family.

Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Soliu Adetunji prayed for long life to the celebrant.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who was represented by Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs Funmi Orisadeyi, poured accolades on the celebrant for her passion for the development of Ibadan and reiterated that the present administration was not ready to dabble into chieftaincy issues.

Earlier, the Chairman Planning Committee of the celebration, Oloye Lekan Alabi said the celebration was a token of appreciation to God as it took the High Chief Oyekanmi Forty-four years to be on queue before becoming the Iyalode of Ibadanland.

The celebrant, High Chief Theresa Oyekanmi who praised God for her sustenance, promised to ensure cohesion among womenfolk in the ancient city to enhance their development.
