Oyo state government has been advised to prioritize and tap the full potentials in the marble deposit in Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area in Oke Ogun, to boost the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR. 

The advice followed a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Irepo Olorunsogo State Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, OYHA, Mr. Kazeem Olayanju on the need for urgent intervention by the state government to harness and resuscitate the Igbeti Marble Company for improved IGR and employment generation. 

Mr. Olayanju in the motion also urged the executive arm to as a matter of urgency, constitute and appoint a general manager for the Oyo State Mineral Development Agency to put machinery in motion to exploit maximum benefit of Igbeti Marble Mining through Public/Private Partnership. 

Reacting on the motion, member representing Oyo East and West state constituency, Mr Isiaka Kazeem described the call as a right step towards achieving a boast in internally generated revenue of the state, noting that the state needs to look inward and harness available resources for the purpose of enhancing the economy. 

Also speaking, member representing Oriire State Constituency, Mr. Jacob Oyeleke appealed to the executive not to relent in its efforts to make Oyo State economic friendly for investors. 

Speaker of the House, Right Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin implored the executive to adopt a proactive and definite measures to revive the moribund Igbeti Marble Company for optimum utilization of the natural resources for job recreation and sustainable environment.
