Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 37 year old man, Mutiu Sonola for allegedly beating his wife, Zainab Shotayo to death.
The Spokesman of the state command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi told journalists in Abeokuta that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday 25th December 2019 following a report by the father of the deceased that he was called on phone that his daughter was having a misunderstanding with her husband and that she had been beaten till she fell into a coma by the husband.
Mr. Oyeyemi explained that the father of the deceased claimed to quickly rushed to the scene and took her daughter to General Hospital, Ijaye where the doctor confirmed her dead.
The command’s spokesman said the suspect who took to his heels was arrested by the DPO Ibara Division, Mr Dada Olusegun.
Mr. Oyeyemi said the preliminary investigation showed that the man was fond of beating the deceased at any slight provocation and that the incident of that fateful day was a very minor disagreement.
He said the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at General Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Mr. Kenneth Ebrimson had ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, SCID, for further investigation and prosecution.
