Oyo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Bashir Bello has cautioned the media and information managers to be wary of disseminating rumour rather in tackling the current COVID-19 pandemic in the state

He stated this during a press briefing as part of activities to mark World Tuberculosis Day 2020 in collaboration with the World Health Organisation  and other public health initiatives.

Dr Bello explained that proper information needed to the passed to prevent anxiety among people 

Dr Bello, while noting that symptoms of tuberculosis and COVID-19 appeared similar, expressed worry over unnecessary panic as residents with mere cough and flu have resulted to disturbing the emergency lines.

The commissioner noted that lack of proper hygiene, poor cough etiquette, malnutrition, smoking, diabetes mellitus, amongst other habits could predispose one to tuberculosis

Earlier, representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Adeniran Adeniyi and Apin Public Health Initiative Dr. Olajide commended the state for recording 93% success in treatment of tuberculosis and pledged constant support
