The Ondo Independent Electoral Commission, ODIEC says it will require additional funding to execute the April 18 local government election.

ODIEC Chairman, Prof. Yomi Dinakin stated this while appearing before the State Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, headed by Mr Samuel Aderoboye.

Prof Dinakin noted that the additional funding became imperative in view of the scourge of coronavirus spread and the need to put in place measures for a smooth conduct of the election.

The Chairman informed the House committee that the commission had so far received the sum of one hundred and fifty million naira out of the approved four hundred and fifty million naira for the election base on available funds.

Prof Dinakin explained that the additional funds would be used for procurement of needed health care materials required for the conduct of the poll.

He appealed to the lawmakers to intervene by addressing the commission’s request for smooth conduct of a credible and acceptable poll.

Responding, Chairman of the Committee, Mr Samuel Aderoboye said the lawmakers would look into the request as soon as it is passed to them by ODIEC.
