The Oyo State House of Assembly, OYHA, has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave.
The approval paves the way for the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, to oversee the affairs of the state during the governor’s absence.
According to a letter from Governor Makinde, the leave will take effect on August 10 and end on September 11, 2026, while he is expected to officially resume office on September 14.
The request was considered during plenary following the governor’s formal correspondence to the Assembly, in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Constitution requires a governor to formally notify the state legislature whenever he intends to be away from office.
The Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the plenary, read the governor’s letter before the lawmakers.
The lawmakers unanimously approved the request, expressing confidence in the seamless continuity of governance under the leadership of the deputy governor during the governor’s absence.
