The Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Command has apprehended seven suspects who were involved in the kidnap of twins of an Islamic scholar, Alhaji Taofeek Akeugbagold in Ibadan.

The seven suspects were today paraded at the police headquarters, Eleyele Ibadan by the Commissioner of police in Oyo State, Mr Shina Olukolu.

Our crime Correspondent, Rasheedah Makinde reports that two of the suspects were staff of the Islamic scholar.

The Two staff, Bashir Mohammed and Opeyemi Oyeleye said they masterminded the kidnap as the Islamic scholar was always treating them poorly.

Bashir said till the day of the kidnap, he was a media aide to Alhaji Akeugbagold but later planned the kidnap to gather some money to take care of his needs.

He noted that he connived with another staff, Opeyemi who connected them with the remaining five suspects who assisted in perfecting the kidnap.

Bashir, who confirmed that the operation was smooth and successful as the twins were familiar with his face, noted that though they demanded for fifty million but later got four million naira and therefore pleaded for leniency.

A female suspect, who was the one that was feeding the twins while in captive, Medinat Rafiu said she was not told the true Identities of the children

Reacting, Alhaji Akeugbagold said it was a rude shock when he realized that two of the suspects were his staff despite the cordial relationship he had with them.

Parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr Shina Olukolu said the arrest was made possible through thorough investigation and support of some members of the public.

Mr Olukolu said the suspects would soon be charged to court after proper investigation.

The two years’ old twins were kidnapped on the 26th of last month at the resident of Alhaji Akeugbagold in Ibadan and later demanded for fifty million naira ransom but eventually collected four million naira.

The victims spent eight days  with the kidnappers before they were released.
