Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola says local government is central to effective governance and equitable development hence the need to make local government more viable.
Governor Oyetola stated this in Osogbo at the inauguration of members of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC
He charged the newly inaugurated electoral umpire to work assiduously and conduct free, and credible local government elections in the state.
Mr Oyetola urged the commission to involve all the critical stakeholders in its arrangements so as to give all sense of belonging.
The Osun helmsman said local government was key to economic emancipation of people at the grassroots ,hence the need for administrators of the council to share the vision of his administration in spreading prosperity and development in the state.
Governor Oyetola noted that his administration would continue to design programmes and policies that would change economic fortune of the state.
In a remark, the chairman of the commission, Mr Segun Oladitan promised to give equal opportunity to all political parties in the forthcoming local government elections.
Mr Oladitan gave assurance that the commission would live up to its responsibility as an independent umpire.
