A doyen and emeritus professor of Geography, University of Ibadan, Adetoye Faniran is dead. 

Emeritus Professor Faniran died in Ibadan during an illness at the age of eighty-four. 

In the military regime in the old Oyo State, he served as Commissioner for Trade, Industries and Cooperatives, Commissioner for Works and Housing and Commissioner for Health.

Professor Faniran was also Chairman, Water Corporation of Oyo State, in the nineteen eighties, among other national and international responsibilities.

The emeritus professor of Geography, who had two chieftaincy titles of Atunluto of Ede and Mayegun of Ola to his laurels, is survived by his wife, Mrs Adewuni Faniran and children, including Mrs Adetola Oladeji, Mrs Folasade Akhigbe, Dr. Adefunke Olawaye and Mr. Oluwaseun Faniran.

According to a statement by Mr Adewumi Faniran of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station, the burial arrangements of the doyen of Geography will be announced later.
