Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, is seeking collaboration with the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, with the aim of creating cordial relationship and ensure safe transportation of petroleum products across the country.
The FRSC Corp Marshal, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, in company of other senior officers paid a courtesy call on Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, in Lagos, stressed the need to ensure that safety regulations and standards were adhered to in the process of haulage transportation which is of Primary concern to the wellness of the nation.
According to Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, the introduction of safe-to-load programme by the FRSC in the distribution of major petroleum products was aimed at ensuring that only vehicles in good condition and competent drivers were allowed to transport both wet and dry cargoes on the roads.
Director and Chief Executive Officer, Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Mr. Anwalu Sarki, who thanked the FRSC team for the visit assured of DPR’s commitment and collaboration on how to enhance safety standards at Petroleum Products Retail Outlets and Gas Plants which forms part of the DPR’s Regulatory mandate.
The DPR Director noted that rampant cases of accidents in the downstream sector of the oil and gas industry necessitated the launch of the Minimum Industry Safety Training for Downstream Operations tagged “MISTDO”
He identified areas of common interest with the FRSC to include periodic checks of haulage vehicles road worthiness, valid driver’s license of truck drivers and up to date vehicle license.
Mr. Sarki emphasized that the agency remained the country’s Oil and Gas Industry Regulatory Agency responsible for the administration of Petroleum laws and statutes as well as implementing policies on oil and gas activities in Nigeria.
