Oyo State Government has promised to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to benefit from the grant set aside for the Poor and Vulnerable in the Country.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun made this known at a Validation meeting on evaluation report of Oyo State’s Youth Employment and Social Support Operation, YESSO, In Ibadan

Mrs Adeosun explained that Youth empowerment initiatives had assisted in building a social register of the poor and vulnerable as well as equipping youths from poor households to elevate them from poverty. 

The Secretary to the State Government, who noted that the Oyo State governor was impressed with the achievements of the scheme promised to open the window of opportunities for those community identified as poor.

Mrs Adeosun explained that proper critic of the report would assist the government to project into the future.

In a remark, The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Adeniyi Farinto, expressed the readiness of the state government to key into all segments of the programme.

He noted that the programme which became operational in the state in May 2013 in collaboration with the World Bank has been able to confront poverty in all ramifications and promised to carry out more community based programmes targeting the poor and the vulnerable.

In a goodwill message, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social inclusion, Alhaja Faosat Sanni explained that cash transfer Unit of the Ministry depends on the Social Register data generated by State Operation Coordinating Unit, SOCU to carry out its duties.

The Coordinator, Oyo State Operation Coordinating Unit (SOCU), Mrs Olaide Lasisi, noted that there were 14,406 households amounting to 58,435 individuals in its register as beneficiaries.

She said the state coordinating unit had also identified another set of 14,594 households in the remaining 14 local government areas as potential beneficiaries.

Mrs Lasisi advocated the support of local government chairmen in ensuring that target beneficiaries get their stipends as and when due to reduce poverty in the state.

She further hinted of plans to empower youths through various YESSO programmes like public workfare, skills for the job and targeted grant transfer.
