The Delta State Government has decried the late submission of budget report by Ministries Departments and Agencies, as it commences the 2020 budget review process in the state.

The Commissioner for Economic Planning Dr. Barry Pere-Gbe, made this known in a remark at the opening ceremony of the State 2020 Budget Defense in Asaba, where he described the budget circle as a tedious process, noting early presentation of submissions enable proper assessment of spending by the MDA’s.

Dr. Pere-Gbe said the 2020 Budget was historic as the appropriation bill was presented three times before the State House of Assembly due to unforeseen factors including the COVID-19 pandemic.

The commissioner added that a memo was distributed to the MDA’s containing a summary and breakdown of the 2020 budget, which would form the benchmark for the discussions.

Present at the opening day of budget defense in Delta State were the state Commissioner for Works Chief James Augoye, and his counterpart in the Energy Ministry Mr. Basil Ganaga. The others are the Permanent Secretaries and Directors of the respective ministries.
