The Ogun 2021 Appropriation bill of Three hundred and Thirty-Nine Billion Naira has scaled second reading at the floor of the state’s House of Assembly.

Some of the lawmakers including Mr Abayomi Fashuwa, Mr Olakunle Sobukanla and Mrs Mudope Mujota described the bill as a financial instrument that would address infrastructural deficit, provide job opportunities, youth development and aid investment.

The lawmakers  spoke at the plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan , Abeokuta  

Opening debate on the bill, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr Olakunle Sobukanla , noted that the bill reflected current realities across  the world when considering the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Sobukanla  explained that the bill was put together in line with international best practices in public finance and gave room for due diligence.

Other lawmakers stated that the bill made critical provisions for the needs of the people especially in the areas of infrastructures, education, youth empowerment and health, hence the need for quick passage of the bill.

They also called for an effective and efficient budget implementation for the benefit of the people, saying that it would bring more innovations to the state.

Responding, the Speaker, Mr Oluomo noted that the budget proposal presented by the Governor was moderate enough for the state at this point in time, calling on members to put all efforts in place for the passage of the bill before the end of the year. 

He thereafter, committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further legislative actions
