Natural disasters management stakeholders have called for collaboration of members of the public in ensuring a speedy response to calamities in their jurisdictions.

The stakeholders stated this at a two-day workshop on disaster management organized by Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command.

National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Assistance Zonal Coordinator, Ibadan, Mr Adebiyi Babatunde highlighted preparedness, response, recovery and rehabilitation as elements to reduce the spate of disasters.

Also, disaster management coordinator of Nigeria Red Cross Oyo State branch,  Mr Fadeyi Akintomiwa said everybody should see disaster management as clarion call, hence the for collective efforts to reduce the menace.

On his part, Commissioner for Environment and natural Disasters, Mr Idowu Oyeleke maintained that holistic approach towards disaster management would go a long way at fighting any forms of disasters.

Declaring the event open, NSCDC commandant in Oyo State, Mr Iskilu Akinsanya noted that the programme became imperative for the officers to be exposed to strategies of managing natural and man-made disasters.

The theme for the two day workshop is “Construction of Holistic Approach towards Disaster Risk reduction”.
