The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, has assured residents that adequate arrangements are in place to ensure a free, fair and credible elections in the forthcoming March 6 council polls in the state.
The Chairman of DSIEC Mr. Mike Ogbodu, stated this at a One Day Capacity Building for media practitioners in the state with the theme: Ethical journalism for Effective Election Coverage.
Mr. Ogbodu expressed the hope that the workshop would enhance the awareness of participants in order to execute their duties according to best ethical standards.
The Chairman of Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mr. Michael Ikeogwu, while assuring the electoral body of adequate media coverage of the elections, also urges members to prioritize their lives in the event violence on election day.
The guest lecturer at the event Dr. Akpoveta Emmanuel described journalists as observers who monitor and inform the public about election processes, thus the need to constantly upgrade their knowledge of modern electioneering practices.
