The independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Ekiti state has rolled out the time table and schedule of activities for the conduct of bye election to fill the existing vacancy in Ekiti East Constituency one with the exercise slated for the 20th of March.

This followed the death of a member of the Ekiti state House of Assembly representing the constituency, Mr Juwa Adegbuyi.

Briefing newsmen in Ado Ekiti, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Rahmon Adeniran said collection of forms for the election by registered political parties from INEC website would start on Friday this week.

Dr Adeniran announced that conduct of party primaries including resolution of disputes arising from the exercise must be held between this Friday and march 3 while submission of forms online is scheduled for the 4th and 8th on march.

According to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, last day for the publication of particulars and list of nominated candidates is March eleven while names of polling agents are to be submitted to the electoral officer of the council by political parties on march 13.

He added that the campaigns by political parties would end on the 18th of March.

The REC said the election would be conducted in line with COVID-19 established protocols and called for the cooperation of all stakeholders to ensure peaceful and credible by election.

Dr Adeniran maintained that the commission would work with the police and other law enforcement agencies to ensure violence free bye election.

He told the gathering that the electoral body would make use its staff and corps members to conduct the poll, promising that there would be a stakeholders meeting and sensitisation of the people of the constituency before exercise.
