Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has approved a yearly public holiday for the celebration of Hijrah, which is  the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Governor Makinde gave the approval during celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, also known as Mawlid Nabbiyy, which he hosted at the Government House Arcade, Agodi, Ibadan.

Speaking at the event, governor Makinde said the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad by the Oyo state government would be an annual event.

In a remark, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta States, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola, appealed to Nigerians, particularly, politicians not to use political warfare to destabilize the country.

Alhaji Makanjuola urged Muslim faithfuls to love one another for Nigeria to be the best to live in. 

The celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad had in attendance the Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheik Abubakr Agbotomokekere; the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji; former first lady of Oyo State, Chief Mutiat Olayinka Ladoja, among others
