Police Arraign Five Over Nude Video

The Police in Osun state have dragged five men before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly posting the nude video of a woman on social media.

The defendants are: Jimoh Oloja, 52; Olawale Omowunmi, 40; Orosola Bolanle, 26; Olubunmi Adedayo, 39 and Isiah Olaniyi, 22.

The Prosecutor, ASP Joseph Adebayo, told the court on Monday that the defendants committed the offence on January 30, 2021 around 5:00 pm at Parakin Area, Ile-Ife.

Asp Adebayo said the defendants conspired among themselves to commit misdemeanor offences including defamation of character and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

He added that the defendants unlawfully and indecently assaulted a woman, Oloyede Elizabeth, while video recording her.

They were said to have stripped her naked and hit her with fist blows, sticks, and slippers.

According to him, the defendants unlawfully assaulted Elizabeth and caused her harm on her private parts.

The Prosecutor stated further that the defendants intended to injure the reputation of Elizabeth by posting on a social media, a video record of her nakedness which exposed her to hatred, ridicule or damage to her profession and reputation.

Asp Adebayo expressed further that the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of public peace by video recording and exposed her nakedness of one Elizabeth while assaulting her in public.

He explained that the offence contravened sections 249(d), 373, 375, 355, 360 and  517 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to five-count charge of conspiracy, indecent assault, assault occasioning harm, defamation of character and conduct likely to cause breach of public peace.

The defence counsels, Mr Adetise Adeyeni and Mr J. O. Amole, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal term, pledged that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate A. A. Adebayo granted the bail of the defendants in the sum of N500,000 with one surety each in like sum.

Magistrate Adebayo added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction, be civil servants not below grade/level 10.

He stated further that the sureties must be landed property owner.

The case was adjourned till April 22 for hearing.
