Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has inaugurated the state Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, with a call on the commission to introduce innovative and resourceful approaches for conducting free, fair and credible election at the local government level.

Inaugurating the Commission at the Excos Chamber, Oke Mosan Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun said peaceful conduct and general acceptance of Local Government election was tied to the resourcefulness and effectiveness of the state electoral commission.

The governor expressed optimism that the new management of OGSIEC would be reputed for fairness and good sense of judgment in the discharge of its constitutional duties, and urged the Commission to conduct free, fair and widely acceptable Local Government Election.

While pointing out that the conduct of the Local Government election was the constitutional responsibility of the state, Governor Abiodun said that his administration would continue to provide a conducive environment for the conduct of free and fair election at the third tier of Government. 

Responding, the chairman of the commission, Mr Babatunde Osibodu, who  gave the assurance that the commission would conduct credible election which would be a benchmark for future election in the state, urged all stakeholders to support the commission towards ensuring successful conduct of local government election.

Other members of the State Independent Electoral Commission are Mr. Olatunji Akoni, Mr. Tajudeen Omolaja, Mr. Ayodele Bankole,  Mrs. Gbemi  Onasanya and Chief Mrs Remileku Olaopa.
