Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has urged the legal profession and other stakeholders to champion discussions that would address the challenges of true and fiscal federalism in the country.
He stated this when a section on public interest and development law (SPIDEL) of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) paid a courtesy call on him at the Agodi Government House,Ibadan
Governor Makinde explained that the continuous system where commissioners of finance from various state visit the country’s capital Abuja monthly to get a share from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) did not portend well for the nation’s federal system of government
While tasking professional bodies like the NBA to brace up to the challenge of drawing up a preferred arrangement that would make the country fare better as well as address infrastructural deficit in the country.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Professor Paul Ananaba (SAN) said the purpose of their visit was to intimate the governor on the proposed conference scheduled to hold in Ibadan, acknowleding that Seyi Makinde’s administration had fared well in raising the bar of governance, especially on public interest.
