Parents and guardians have been asked to wake up to their responsibility by ensuring proper upbringing of their kids.

A guest speaker, Professor Peter Olapegba stated this in Ibadan at a security summit organised by NSCDC with the theme, “Preventing Crime and Criminality in the Society: Parents as Gatekeepers”.

Professor Adepegba said with the increase in the rate of youths involvement in crime and criminality, parents needed to be more involved in the affairs of their children by being vigilant .

He noted that parents were supposed to be the first teacher of their children before the influence of the society, as the world battles with numerous security challenges.

Earlier, NSCDC Commandant, Mr Iskilu Akinsanya said the essence of the summit was to foster the re-engineering of security schedules and operations through security agencies and parents, communities and religious leaders.

Mr Akinsanya, therefore, called on parents and guardians to partner security operatives by monitoring their wards and guiding them in the right path.

In her address of welcome, the host and Divisional Officer, Ibadan North-East, Mrs Victoria Alao said the topic was chosen to sensitise parents to keep vigil over their wards and enlighten them on how to live a life free of crime which might tarnish the image of their family.
