The Delta State Drug Control Committee in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has vowed to take the fight against drug abuse to schools in the twenty-five local government areas of the state.
The Chairman of the committee, Mrs. Justina Ofonaikechukwu, stated this at Nana College in Warri, during a One Day Sensitization Workshop for primary and secondary school teachers in the area.
Mrs. Ofonaikechukwu noted that sixty-seven Drug Free Clubs have been established in schools to enlighten students on the dangers of drug abuse, with similar campaigns at the Delta State NYSC Orientation camp for corps members.
Meanwhile, Delta State Commandant of the NDLEA, Mr. Dennis Obiefule, observed that drug abuse is a major challenge confronting humanity which has escalated in recent times especially among the youth, while calling on the teachers to report incidents of drug abuse to the authorities.
The participating teachers at the workshop were drawn from Warri South, Warri North, Warri South West, Udu and Uvwie Local Government Areas.
