As part of activities marking this year’s world blood donor day, the Nigerian Medical Association Committee on Blood Transfusion Services in collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Services, NBTS, have organised healthwalk in Ibadan.

Our health correspondent reports that the walk which was attended by stakeholders in the health sector started from NBTS office at Total Garden through gate area.

Chairman, Nigerian Medical Association, Oyo State Branch, Dr. Ayotunde Fasunla explained that the survival of many patients in the hospital depends on blood transfusion hence the need for all to donate blood on regular basis.

Dr. Fasunla disabused the minds of people who shied away from donating blood to be their brother’s keeper as test would be carried out to ensure their blood level was high enough to be donated.

Similarly, the Southwest Coordinator, National Blood Transfusion service southwest zonal office, Dr. Oladapo Aworanti  said anyone from the ages of 17 who weighed  a minimum of forty kilogram can donate blood.
