A bill seeking to amend the Osun State Audit Laws 2019 has passed through the first, second and third reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly.

The Bill, entitled Osun State Audit Amendment Bill 2021, was announced at the plenary by the Speaker, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, following a letter addressed to the House by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

According to the governor, the bill is to make adjustments to the preexisting Osun State Audit Laws 2019 in order to meet global best practice.

While presenting the Policy Trust of the bill, Majority leader, Mr. Maruf Olarenwaju, noted that it would, among other things, provide proper perspective for the functions, tenure and powers of the state auditor general while eliminating waste.

After the House dissolved into the Committee of the Whole to deliberate on the Bill, the Speaker reported that relevant sections of the Principal law were amended to clearly spell out circumstances surrounding the appointment of the Auditor General.

He also mentioned that the amendment involved provision for the Auditor General to work without undue interference.

In a separate development, the House of Assembly confirmed the nomination of Mrs. Iyabo Jimoh as the representative of Ward 10a, Ejigbo South Local Council Development Area.
