Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has assented to the bill banning the practice of open grazing in the state.

This was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the Governor, Mr. Ismail Omipidan while addressing journalists in his office.

Mr. Omipidan said government had notified the security agencies that would enforce the law in every part of the state, hence it is a crime to practice open grazing in Osun state.

He noted that Osun State was one of the most peaceful states in the country, with fewer challenges of herders invading people’s farm to destroy the crop or attacking farmers because there was in place Committee on Peaceful Co-Existence between Fulani/Bororo and Crop Farmers to foster peace between these communities.

The governor’s spokesperson said before enacting the law, government had summoned stakeholder meeting to deliberate on the matter and had enlightened the herders in the state on the benefit of embracing ranching system.

Radio Nigeria recalls that the Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, had on August 12th, 2021 passed the bill to regulate animal grazing and establishments of cattle ranches and other related matters.
