Nine people were killed in an accident that happened in the early hour of Tuesday, 21 September 2021.

The people were crushed by a heavy-duty truck in Benin City, Edo State.

The incident happened along Sokponba road between Ogbelaka and Aruosa junction in Benin at about 7.30, Nigeria time.

It involved a truckload conveying sharp sand that rammed into a moving commercial bus in Benin city popularly called “Tuke-Tuke”.

Standard Gazette gathered that the truck that had a brake failure first rammed over the commercial bus, killing nine persons on the spot, and before hitting another truck heading towards the GRA in BENIN City.

The situation has now led to serious traffic congestion along Sokponba road in Benin city.
Many persons are trying to get to their offices, and places of business were stranded.

Other persons have resorted to trekking to their various destinations.

Men of the Edo state police command and the vigilante group were spotted at the scene of the accident trying to restore normalcy to the area.

All the nine dead persons have been deposited in the mortuary, while other survivors with severe injuries are in the intensive care unit of the Edo specialist hospital in Benin city.
