The Ekiti State Government has procured four heavy duty equipment worth about one billion naira for erosion control and channelization of rivers across the state.
The equipment are Amphibious Excavators known as Swamp buggy and two Articulated Low bed Trucks
While inaugurating the equipment in Ado Ekiti, the Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi said that the equipment were procured under the World Bank Assisted Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP.
Otunba Egbeyemi who explained that Fayemi’s administration was passionate to ensure hazard free environment, maintained that the gesture was born out of interest to motivate community participation towards reduction of environmental risks.
The Deputy Governor appreciated Federal Government for given Ekiti the privilege to enjoy from the scheme and pointed out that the facilities would help the state to carry out constant dredging and channelization of waterways.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Princess Iyabo Fakunle- Okiemen noted that the intervention scheme for erosion control would bring about meaningful growth especially in towns and villages where people were terribly experiencing constant flooding.
The Contractor who supplied the Heavy Duty Equipment, Mr Collins Amadi said that the Excavators and trucks were brown new purchased vehicles which would stand a test of time due to it quality.
