The improvised explosive device, IED, that was believed to have been used by the attackers of Abolongo prison have was detonated this afternoon by the officers of the anti-bomb unit of the Nigeria Police.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian correctional service, Oyo State Command, Olanrewaju Anjorin explained that the anti-bomb unit of the Nigerian police was invited to carry out the operation so as not to endanger lives and property.

He further advised people not to panic as it was a safe action.

Radio Nigeria correspondent that visited Abolongo prison last Sunday noticed that the device was thrown close to the main gate of the prison by the attackers during the last Friday jailbreak.

It would be recalled that medium correctional centre Abolongo, Oyo town was attacked by some unknown gunman last Friday leaving four people dead and many others injured.
