Ekiti State Government says it has developed a roadmap to restore the ancient integrity of the state through educational values in both public and private schools.
Governor Kayode Fayemi announced this in Ado Ekiti at the launch of Ekiti Values Education Curriculum and Textbooks.
He maintained that it was regrettable that the values, personal pride, good name, hard work, simplicity among other virtues of the people of Ekiti had become eroded due to poor attention to the standard of the society.
“In the past our ancient parents have built good names which up till today people refer to Ekiti People as those with exceptional knowledge, integrity and hardworking with contentment” he emphasized.
The Governor recalled that restoration of the lost values of the people remained one of the campaign promises of the present administration which was gradually being fulfilled with the launching of new curriculum and textbooks for schools from primary to secondary level.
He noted that the curriculum would teach students the history of social justice, Ekiti cultural behaviour, innovations, respect for elders, exceptional leadership qualities among many other positive ideas in the quest of reclaiming the Land.
Earlier, the chairperson of the committee for values Education Curriculum and textbooks who doubles as the wife of the state Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi noted that the values of the state needed to be well preserved by inculcating morals and discipline in students right from primary school level.
The governor’s wife suggested the imposition of sanctions to deviants saying that such was needed to guide the state to an enviable height.
Goodwill messages from Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi, Commissioner for information and values orientation, Mr Akin Omole, chairman Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Pastor Kayode Babade among others lauded the initiative noting that it was a milestone to return the state to the glorious path and set temples for citizens’ socialisation.
