Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State, has disclosed that the state will be powered through the 3.5MW Independent Power Plant Project in September to drive economic growth.

Oyebanji said this in Omuo-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti East Local government Area while giving an account of stewardship at a stakeholders’ engagement program to mark his 300 days in office.

He noted that the 3.5MW Independent Power Plant project is 90 percent completed to supply light to government offices and tertiary institutions in Ado Ekiti and suburbs, saying this would rectify the epileptic power supply being experienced in some sections of the state.

His words: “We are reconnecting Ikogosi, Erijiyan, and Ikogosi Resort Centre back to the national grid to enhance the state tourism corridor. We need N1 billion to reconnect Ayekire, Ekiti East Local governments, and their LCDAs after 10 years of darkness as well as the Agriculture Processing Zone at Ikole back to the national grid.

“We have installed solar lights at the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti to light up the area and checkmate criminals who were using the spot as a criminal hideout. This government has extended the 33KV at Omisanjana Transmission Substation to Baptist High School and connection of Ilawe 33KV line with Erinjiyan-Ikogosi.”

Ekiti State Government says it has developed a roadmap to restore the ancient integrity of the state through educational values in both public and private schools.

 Governor Kayode Fayemi announced this in Ado Ekiti at the launch of Ekiti Values Education Curriculum and Textbooks.

He maintained that it was regrettable that the values, personal pride, good name, hard work, simplicity among other virtues of the people of Ekiti had become eroded due to poor attention to the standard of the society.

“In the past our ancient parents have built good names which up till today people refer to Ekiti People as those with exceptional knowledge, integrity and hardworking with contentment” he emphasized.

The Governor recalled that restoration of the lost values of the people remained one of the campaign promises of the present administration which was gradually being fulfilled with the launching of new curriculum and textbooks for schools from primary to secondary level.

 He noted that the curriculum would teach students the history of social justice, Ekiti cultural behaviour, innovations, respect for elders, exceptional leadership qualities among many other positive ideas in the quest of reclaiming the Land.

Earlier, the chairperson of the committee for values Education Curriculum and textbooks who doubles as the wife of the state Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi noted that the values of the state needed to be well preserved by inculcating morals and discipline in students right from primary school level.

The governor’s wife suggested the imposition of sanctions to deviants saying that such was needed to guide the state to an enviable height.

Goodwill messages from Head of Service, Mrs Peju Babafemi, Commissioner for information and values orientation, Mr Akin Omole, chairman Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Pastor Kayode Babade among others lauded the initiative noting that it was a milestone to return the state to the glorious path and set temples for citizens’ socialisation.

The wife of Ekiti State Governor Erelu Bisi Fayemi says access to the quick dispensation of Justice remains one of the means of fulfilling a social contract between the government and its citizens.

Erelu Fayemi announced this while inaugurating a  Citizen Complaints Center Located at Oba’s market (Oja Oba) in Ado Ekiti.

She explained that such an initiative was a creative idea to ensure global best practices and bring justice nearer to the people.

While appreciating the ministry of Justice for efforts put in place on the center, the Governor’s wife urged market women and men to make judicious use of the initiative to lodge complaints.

Earlier, Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wale Fapohunda noted that the center would always be ready to attend to all complaints which might include molestation of innocent citizens by the police, infringement on individuals’ rights by government agents, and other civil or criminal cases.

Mr. Fapohunda who gave assurance that competent legal services would be provided at the center reiterated the present administration’s commitment to the protection of human rights most especially women, underaged, and other vulnerable groups.

In a remark, an official of the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Oluwatayo Fabusuyi added that the vision of the initiative was to upgrade Justice for the betterment of society.

The inauguration was attended by the speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, Chairperson Ado Local Government, Mrs. Motunde Fajuyi among other important dignitaries.

The Ekiti Government says it has commenced contact tracing of the fourteen new cases of Covid-19 recorded in the state on Monday.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Mojisola Yaya Kolade announced this in Ado Ekiti.

Dr Yaya Kolade advised those who had contacts with any of the victims to make themselves available to reduce the spread of the virus in Ekiti.

She explained that the fourteen new cases announced on Monday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, were discovered at the ongoing random testing in council areas.

According to the commissioner, the random testing had been carried out in  Ikere, Gbonyin, Emure and Ise/ Orun local governments.

EKITI state had so far recorded 63 cases of Coronavirus, with 40 discharged, 21 still receiving treatment at the isolation centre in Ado Ekiti and two deaths.
