Ogun State government is to make a law that would ensure prosecution of workers in the building industry found guilty of compromising standards in erecting structures.

Governor Dapo Abiodun made this known at the Treasury Board Meeting on the Year 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the 2022 Budget held at the Oba’s Complex in Abeokuta.

Governor Abiodun who acknowledged that workers responsible for building control are susceptible to taking bribes promised to ensure that the law will also prosecute heads of building control agencies should the building collapse under their watch.

The governor stated that the duty of those responsible for building control should not only be for revenue generation but to ensure due process and best practices in line with Building Control Regulations.

The governor cautioned the building engineers that the government would not hesitate to prosecute officials of the state government and contractors indicted for compromising standards in erecting structures that threaten life and property.
