It was a worrisome Sunday morning for the people of Kobape town along the Abeokuta – Sagamu Interchange when they woke up to discover the lifeless body of a man on an electric pole.
The residents told Radio Nigeria that the yet to be identified man, believed to have been electrocuted, was discovered in the early hours of the day in a sitting position atop the 40-foot pole under which they also discovered a pair of slippers suspected to belong to him
Some witnesses alleged that the man could have climbed the poles under the cover of darkness with a view to vandalizing the electricity cables while others suspected that he was on a suicide mission.
The body was later evacuated by the police.
In a reaction, the state Public Relations Officer for the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC, Mr Ayodeji Bada said the company was not aware of the incident and there was no report that any member of staff was deployed for official duties on the facility.
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident said investigations had commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the case.
