Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, has described as baseless the content of a write-up circulating online, titled “Settling political scores through people’s basic need in Ijesaland”.

The speaker, Mr Timothy Owoeye made this known in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the speaker, Mr Kunle Alabi.

Mr Owoeye said the write up was filled with unsubstantiated allegations.

The said piece had alleged that the Ilesa Water Project was about to be abandoned like all the previous government projects.

The speaker noted that the writer could have asked questions if he or she was in doubt rather than dishing out information that was unfounded, jaundiced and misleading.

“The Speaker is so passionate about the water project situated in his constituent being an Ijesa son. He is stopping at nothing in ensuring that the project comes to fruition in no distant time and at different fora commended Government efforts on the water project”. The purported removal is coming from the figment of the imagination of the writer. The Assembly is aware that all the components of the project are almost completed except the treatment plants in Kajola which are affected by the mining activities in Ijesaland coupled with the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020”, the statement reads.

“The Bank that granted the loan gave an extension till 2023 for the remaining loan to be assessed. A substantial amount of the loan has not been assessed and all other components have been completed but for the treatment plant. New technology must be employed because of the mining activities so that the particles in the water in that area can be handled effectively” the speaker explains.

Mr Owoeye stressed that the 7th Assembly had been engaging the Commissioner for Water Resources, Doctor Amidu Tadese and the Chief Consultant of the water project in Ilesa, Engineer Tawa Williams to hasten the completion of the project.

The Speaker explained that the OSHA Committee on Water resources headed by Mr Babatunde Olateju, in its oversight function, had paid several visits to the Ilesa Water Project to ascertain the level of work done.

Mr Owoeye gave the assurance that the project would be completed soon while calling on residents to support the Governor Adegboyega Oyetola-led administration for greater developmental strides rather than unnecessarily heating up the polity.
