National Assembly has been advised to make laws that will regulate defection among elected political office holders in Nigeria.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Action Alliance, AA, Dr Samuel Adeyemi made the call while featuring on political space, a Radio Nigeria interview programme.

Dr adeyemi, who noted that defection was a politically rational decision, pointed out that there should be a legal framework that would discourage elected officer holders to switch parties at will.

According to the AA BOT Chairman, it was a disservice to electorate for elected representatives to decamp to other platforms, thereby robbing people of their choice.

Dr adeyemi clarified that not all politicians switch parties for selfish reasons, stating that some aggrieved individuals may pitch their tents with another party with similar ideology.

The AA Chieftain added that some political aspirants toe the line of cutting their teeth from small parties to attract accolades and improve their curriculum vitae.

Callers on the programme aligned with Dr Adeyemi by calling for constitutional amendment to check arbitrary defection among elected public office holders.
