Officials of the Ekiti State Signage and Advertisement Agency have commenced removal of posters and billboards pasted indiscriminately in Ado Ekiti particularly, the vicinity of the Governor’s Office between Fajuyi Area of the state capital and Okesha junction.

The Director General of the Agency, Mr. Olasunkanmi Onipede who led the officials, said that the move was to curb what he described as an eyesore created by indiscriminate pasting of posters and erecting billboards across the state.

Mr Onipede decried the flagrant disregard to the extant laws on signage and advertisement in the State by some advertisers and politicians who paste posters and erect billboards without proper approval from the agency.

He stated that the offending posters and billboards would not only be removed, but culprits would be prosecuted and also made to pay the cost of removing their illegal items.

Mr Onipede emphasized that the increase in political activities in the state in view of the forthcoming gubernatorial election was not an excuse to disfigure the environment.

The signage boss, who warned that there would be no sacred cow, said the development would serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.

According to him, the agency had embarked on series of advocacy and sensitization before embarking on the ongoing enforcement of the signage laws, saying that there was no room for excuses.

“It is not politically motivated, we have sensitised them enough, we placed jingles on Radio and TV stations in the state, but owners of such materials keep on pasting their posters in an unauthorized places”, the agency boss said

Mr Onipede assured that the agency would continue to fair to all political parties in approving outdoor signage and advertisement, but would not tolerate any attempt to cut corners and shortchange the state.
