Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption has examined the 2014-2019 audit reports of Ijebu Ode, Ijebu North and Ijebu North East Local Government Councils and thus observed with dismay, the various infractions in violation of financial regulations by some councils’ officials.

To this end, the Committee had therefore invited all Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs), Treasurers and Directors, General Services and Administrations as well as Internal Auditors in the 20 Local Government councils for an interactive session on Wednesday, 16th February 2022,

The interactive session is expected to address the infractions observed as well as take steps to curb future financial irregularities in the councils.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr  Musefiu Lamidi announced the invitation shortly after the lawmakers considered the audit report of the three Councils, at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Chairman, in the company of some lawmakers including the Deputy Speaker, Mr Akeem Balogun, Mr Abdul Bashir Oladunjoye, Mr Kunle Sobukanla and Mr Adeyemi Ademuyiwa,  frowned at the illegal withholding of audit queries addressed to officers by some councils’ treasurers.

The lawmakers equally decried the approval of funds without recourse to the recommendations of the Finance and General Purposes Committee (FGPC) meetings of the councils.

In another development, the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has admonished all parties involved in claims to some traditional stools at Okun Owa, Ijoun and Ode- Omi in Odogbolu, Yewa North and Ogun Waterside Local Government Councils respectively, to adhere strictly to the provisions of the State Obas and Chieftaincy Law, 2021 and other extant regulations towards ensuring fairness, peace and tranquillity in the selection process of candidates from qualified ruling houses in the affected communities.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi gave the advice when considering petitions addressed to the lawmakers at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Mrs Ajayi urged the parties in dispute on the chieftaincy matter to forget their differences and remain committed to the collective development of their communities which could only be achieved within a peaceful atmosphere.
