Lack of parental guidance and peer pressure have been identified as factors contributing to the high rate of drug abuse in the country.

Osun State Commander, National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr Yomade Ogunbiyi stated this while speaking in an interview with Radio Nigeria.

Mr Ogunbiyi called on parents to be more active in the discharge of their responsibility and prioritize the well-being of their children above other things.

The NDLEA Commandant explained that the agency’s activities go beyond the arrest of culprits but to counsel, re-orientate and re-integrate drug addicts back into society.

He frowned at some people who abused drugs as a means of lowering depression, saying such practice would destroy them while the problem persist.

Mr Ogunbiyi admonished Nigerians especially youths to stay away from drugs in order not to jeopardize their future.
