Ogun State Police Command says thirteen persons have been arrested for allegedly destroying other people’s property following an accident that claimed the life of a motorcycle rider in the Itori area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspects in a statement in Abeokuta.

Mr Oyeyemi pointed out that the suspects were part of those who went on a rampage when a smuggler’s vehicle who they believed was being chased by the men of Nigeria Customs Service knocked down a motorcycle rider and the victim died instantly.

He noted that the hoodlums immediately went berserk, vandalizing vehicles of innocent passersby, and also moved to a popular hotel in the area where officers of the Nigeria Customs Service used to lodge and started looting the hotel.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the hoodlums attacked the policemen who had visited the scene following a distress call with stones.

Speaking during his assessment tour of the scene of the incident, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole described the act of vandalizing property as barbaric and directed that others who were involved in the dastardly act be hunted for and brought to book.
