The people of Edemosi in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State has given the traditional ruler, Oba Samuel Olaniyan seven days ultimatum to relocate to the palace.

The ultimatum is contained in a petition letter jointly signed by the community youth leader, Mr Sunday Awosina, General Secretary, Mr Dapo Awosina, and Community Women leader, Mrs Fatodun Dupeola, submitted to the Commissioner of Police, Osun State.

The people alleged that since the monarch ascended the throne four years ago, he had not spent a night in the community’s palace.

The letter read, “This to inform the Commissioner of Police that the youths and women of Edemosi kingdom has written a letter of notification to our King which he must act upon before the next 7days. 

“Oba Samuel Olaniyan was installed as Edemosi king since four years ago but neither passed a night nor sleep at Edemosi Community for a day.

We are giving him 7days to relocate to Edemosi and stop ruling us from from Ila-orangun.”

They also demanded that the Kabiesi withdrew the suspension of High Chief, Abiodun Awojide (Obaala of Edemosi) and Chief Aniyikaye Awowale (Akogun of Ede), while they also warned Oba Olaniyan against imposition of taxes on the people as well land grabbing all in the name of royalty.

Reacting to the allegations, Oba Olaniyan said, the community had been left behind for donkey years.

He said he met nothing when he became king, spent over fourteen million naira of his personal resources to build the palace, while he also facilitated the siting of Secondary school in the community and even built apartments for teachers. 

The monarch remarked that he could not sleep in the palace due to security issue, as the palace lacked perimeter fencing.
