Selection of flag bearers for Labour party in the 2023 general elections will be based on merit rather than highest bidder.

Chairman of the party in Oyo state, Mr Sadiq Atayese stated this while featuring on political space, a Radio Nigeria interview programme.

Mr Atayese said the leadership of the party would ensure that all those who emerged as its candidates were selected based on performance through consensus.

Mr Atayese noted that the party would be focusing mainly on positions at the state level in the 2023 general elections and expressed optimism that Labour party would win seats at the house of assembly.

He noted that though it was difficult to win elections in Nigeria without money, Labour party would present a scorecard that would be attractive to the masses.

He said Labour party was the party for all and encouraged people to join the party ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Labour party chairman said the party would also ensure that any of its candidates who emerged victorious at next elections implemented the party’s manifesto.

Mr Atayese added that the manifesto of the party was in line with the basic aspirations of the people which included provision of quality education, security and other social amenities.
