Muslims have been enjoined to promote the culture of regular reading of the Quran so as to deepen their knowledge in Islam.

A scholar of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Dr Ridwan Bello gave the advice during the 2022 Ilyas Memorial Quranic Competition held at the Alalukimba Islamic Development Centre, Atori, Iseyin.

Dr Bello identified five factors that strengthens deeper Islamic knowledge to include faith in the Quran, reading it, memorizing it, understanding it, and acting on its precepts.

The don who urged the sponsors of the competition to sustain the gesture, said early exposure of the participants would enable them to develop a keen interest in Quran and Allah.

A member of the family sponsoring the competition, Alhaji Abdulgarfar Owonikoko said the programme would continue to speak for late Ilyas Owonikoko.

Wife of the late Ilyas Owonikoko, Mrs Yemisi Owonikoko said the programme would not have succeeded without the support of her brother-in-law, Mr Abiodun Owonikoko, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN.

High point of the event was a Fidau for late Alhaji Ilyas Owonikoko as well prayer for the entire Owonikoko family.
