Operatives of Ogun state Police Command have arrested Wakilu Ogundairo for allegedly raising false alarm of Boko Haram terrorists invasion in Imosan ijebu area of Ogun state.
The suspect had sent a voice note which went viral claiming that Boko Haram terrorists with cache of arms had invaded Imosan ijebu, causing panic among the people of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement in Abeokuta said the people, after receiving the voice note, resorted to calling the command’s emergency number expressing concern over the safety of their loved ones in ijebu ode and Ogun state as a whole.
Mr Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole, directed the Divisional Police Officer, Obalende division to move into the area and find out the authenticity of the said WhatsApp voice note.
The Command Spokesman pointed out that the DPO of the division discovered after investigation that the only people in that location were farm labourers from Benue state who were carrying out their legitimate business devoid of any form of violence.
He said the suspect who raised the false alarm had confessed that he only made the voice note to scare members of the public adding that there was no invasion anywhere.
