The National Directorate of Employment, NDE, says it is committed to its mandate of employment generation, wealth creation and poverty alleviation in the country.

The Director-General of NDE, Malam Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo stated this while speaking with journalists at the end of an assessment visit to some NDE beneficiaries in Ibadan, Oyo state.

Represented by the Oyo State NDE Co-ordinator, Mrs Olayinka Olayemi, the Director-General said the directorate under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has trained thousands of unemployed youths in demand-driven skills with the purpose of making them self reliant

In their separate remarks, the beneficiaries in Oyo State appealed to the Federal government to increase funding to the directorate in order to create more employment opportunities and boost vocational skills in the country.

Some of them who spoke with Radio Nigeria challenged youths to prioritize skill acquisition which they described as a solution to youth unemployment in the country.

While sharing their experiences, a furniture trainee, Mr Emmanuel Babajide, a caterer, Mrs Temitope Oyewo and a fish farmer, Mr Oloyede Julius explained that the empowerment opportunities through the NDE had impacted positively on their economic powers.

Also speaking, an MSc holder a physically challenged trainee, Mr Adetunji Olowe said he was able to get a livelihood through the NDE empowerment and has become an employer of labour.

They however appealed to Nigerians to patronize locally made products to encourage local manufacturers of goods and services.
