The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, has sealed off 34 medical laboratories across Osun State.

The Council also outrightly shutdown 4 medical laboratories for various unethical conducts inimical to public health.

Briefing Newsmen after the Operations, Head of Inspection of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, MLSCN, Mr James Ogbeche said of the 71 laboratories Inspected in Osogbo, Ejigbo, Ilesa, Ile-Ife and Ijebu Jesa among others,only 31 facilities were certified fit for public use.

Mr Ogbeche stressed that in the course of the inspection, 3 persons were arrested and handed over to police over unwholesome practises in the facilities,while officers of the council were denied access to 2 laboratories.

He explained that the operation was in pursuant of the MLSCN Act, 2011 which empowers the council to deploy instruments from time to time to sanitise the medical laboratory services sector to meet the yearnings of the citizens of accurate, reliable, reproducible, timely, and cost-effective medical laboratory test results.

The Head of Inspection of the MLSCN noted that the council had a long tradition of partnering with the Media in the discharge of her statutory responsibilities in the interest of Nigerians.

Mr Ogbeche advised Nigerians against patronizing medical laboratories that were not certified by the council because of the implications on their health.
