Regular visit to a physiotherapist is required for healthy living.

The Deputy Director Physiotherapy Services, Adeoyo Maternity and Teaching Hospital, Yemetu Ibadan, Dr Najeem Raji gave the advice at a lecture marking this year’s World Physiotherapy day held at 2 division Medical Services and Hospital, Odogbo Cantonment, Ojoo, Ibadan.

Speaking on this year’s theme for the 2022 World Physiotherapy Day “Osteoarthritis”Dr. Raji explained that to be physically active, one should always strengthen the muscles around body joints and, if necessary, lose weight.

He noted that Physiotherapy is needed when movement and function are being threatened by ageing, injury, diseases, among others.

Dr Raji submitted that Physiotherapists have in-depth knowledge of how human body functions and clinical skills to prescribe treatments for illnesses.

In an interview, the Chairman, Nigeria Society of physiotherapy, Oyo state, Dr Olubukola Olaleye, said the brain drain in heath sector could be prevented if government provide sufficient funding in order to provide the best services to the population.

Dr Olaleye noted that Nigeria could only boast of four thousand registered physiotherapists, and that fifty percent of them have migrated to abroad.
